Job Interviews via Webcam

Job interviews via video telecommunications are already commonplace in the U.S.A. and Asia. Now they're catching on in Germany, too. The main advantage is that they save the time and traveling costs that normally go into face-to-face meetings.

They also allow for a smoother integration of a new employee into the daily work routine. And an applicant doesn't have to take an entire day off from work for a webcam job interview. Among the German companies accepting interviews by internet video telephone for the first selection round is the Otto mail order firm of Hamburg. But the applicants need a solid footing in the technology and strong nerves, as connection problems and technical glitches can easily ruin the interview. Even so, the applicants are playing a home game. For many people, it's much easier to relax and act naturally in their own homes.
