Köttbullar

Köttbullar, Sweden’s take on the humble meatball, are a cult. They appear in Astrid Lindgren’s books and the Muppet Show and IKEA has made their popularity rocket around the world.

Köttbullar (Swedish Meatballs)

Recipe:

Köttbullar - Serves four

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef mince or beef/pork mince
  • 1 onion
  • 150ml milk or cream
  • 1 egg
  • 5 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • Allspice or parsley
  • Butter or cooking oil for frying
  • 1 jar cranberry sauce


Method
Combine the mik or cream with the breadcrumbs and herbs/spices and leave for ten minutes. Finely dice the onion and heat gently in a pan. Add the mince and the onions to the milk/cream mixture and knead thoroughly. Form small balls of 2-3cm diameter and fry in the butter on a medium heat until the outside is brown.
Serve with potatoes and cranberry sauce.
