Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, has secured enough votes for what appears to be an insurmountable lead in the presidential runoff against leftist challenger Roberto Sanchez.
But the victory of the four-time presidential hopeful is reigniting old divisions in a country that has cycled through nine presidents in just over a decade. Supporters believe Fujimori can restore order, tackle rising crime and bring stability to Peru. Critics fear the return of a deeply polarizing political movement linked to one of the most controversial periods in the country's modern history.
