In Kenya's arid regions, keeping milk fresh is challenging. But new tech is building resilience and upping production.

In the village of Orma in Kenya's arid coastal region, droughts lead to low milk production, while high yields from wet seasons are lost to spoilage. But a new milk cooling and bulking plant aims to help farmers cut such losses. Most of the over 130 pastoral dairy farmers in the Tana River region and Garissa County are women.

The fresh milk is fed into a vending machine, ready for sale. As climate change makes extreme weather more intense and frequent, milk production initiatives can help livestock-dependent communities build resilience.
