Uganda's "Pet a Tree" project teaches children to love, name, and nurture trees — all to help fight climate change.

Well, you’ve heard of tree huggers… In Uganda, a unique environmental campaign is encouraging kids to adopt trees as pets. It’s a fun way to encourage young Ugandans to help grow their green future. Deforestation has already decimated Uganda’s woodlands and the country is still losing over 120,000 hectares of forest annually. It’s a factor that is accelerating climate change, making projects like these particularly valuable. The African Tourism and Environment Initiative (ATEI) is behind the Pet a Tree initiative, which puts the spotlight on the importance of caring and protecting trees long term.
