Labor Office Faces New Scandal

A cost explosion in the creation of a Internet job search engine has thrown the already-embattled Federal Labor Office into another potential scandal. The new office head Frank Weise said last Wednesday that the costs of creating the new search egine could reach €165 million ($205 million), €100 million more than originally required. On Monday, a report in the Handelsblatt alleged that Weise knew about the potential high costs as early as last August and ignored them. The Labor Office, fresh from the recent removal of chief Florian Gerster, has been plagued by infighting since the revelation last week. The board that oversees the office called on Monday for an emergency meeting this week to find out who knew what, when.
