A high proportion of the students at the Carl Bolle elementary school come from Sinti and Roma families who have moved to Berlin from Bulgaria and Romania. Many do not speak very good German. But the school is taking part in a nation-wide program designed to improve educational opportunities for children from immigrant families - with the help of teachers, social workers and mediators.
