Almost a year after Israel's attacks in Lebanon that left some 5,000 dead and around 17,000 injured, many survivors are still struggling to access adequate treatment to support their recovery. Among them is Celine Haidar, a young football player who refuses to give up on her dream.

Celine Haidar, a 20-year-old footballer from Lebanon's capital Beirut, was critically injured by shrapnel during Israeli strikeson her country in November 2024. After months in a coma and intensive care, she has relearned to walk. Haidar is determined to return to the pitch, but complete recovery will take much more time.

Before her injury, Celine Haidar was about to become captain of her soccer team which had won the West Asia Cup two years in a row.

Haidar's story is only one of Lebanon's collapsed healthcare system which leaves thousands of war survivors without long-term support. Families are left to carry the burden alone and rely on the help of NGOs.
