Amal Khalil, a senior Lebanese journalist, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday while reporting from southern Lebanon on clashes between Israel and Iran‑backed Hezbollah. The Israeli military said it did not deliberately target journalists.

Amal Khalil was clearly marked as "PRESS" and was sheltering in a house when it was hit by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), according to local reports, despite a ceasefire being in place at the time. The United Nations condemned the killing and called for an investigation, stressing that journalists are protected under international humanitarian law. Rights groups say nine journalists have been killed in Lebanon so far this year.
