With socialist parties notching up victories all across Europe, Germany's Left Party is struggling to get back on its feet.

National elections are set for September 2013, but the Left Party appears to be splintered and suffering from a lack of concept, leadership - and a future. Its best campaigner, Oskar Lafontaine, has withdrawn his candidacy for party chairman.
