Liberia: Turning waste into jobs

Africa is expected to generate over 160 million tons of waste by 2025. The good news is that most of it can be recycled and reused to create new products – bringing benefits for the environment and creating jobs.

Liberia: Turning waste into jobs

By 2025, Africa’s growing economies could be producing up to 160 million tons of waste per year. But a growing recycling industry in some African countries could tackle the problem and turn it to a thriving business. The Liberian recycling organization ‘Green Cities’ tries to provide jobs for youths in the recycling industry, while doing its part for the environment. Vernon Krah was an unemployed high-school graduate and has now transformed into a recycling specialist with a job and a salary.
