Life under the Taliban
September 3, 2021At that time, the Islamist fundamentalist group controlled almost half of the country. They especially had a firm grip on rural areas. Without the support of the US military, the Afghan army had little chance of stopping the Taliban's advance. Even then, the Taliban’s return to power was inevitable.
In the regions where they ruled as a kind of parallel government, the Taliban dictated the details of people's daily lives, from how they sold food to how often they prayed. The Taliban regularly decreed new laws and bans in accordance with Sharia law, their strict interpretation of what the Quran defines as a pious life.
The film offers insights into the period before the Taliban took power in Afghanistan and foreshadows future developments in this war-torn country.
