For poet and journalist Abida Spogmai, writing is essential to life. She fled to Europe after losing all prospects in Afghanistan, where girls may only attend school until sixth grade.

Illustrator Maren Amini uses humor as resistance. With her playful drawings, she wants to spread lightness and hope. Raised in Germany with Afghan roots, she is determined to pass on her family’s cultural heritage.
