Lighthouses guide ships and are a cherished part of cultural heritage for many Norwegians. Devoted locals work tirelessly to preserve these iconic structures.

Located 15 kilometers (9 miles) off the western coast of Norway, the Hestskjaeret lighthouse has served as a maritime guardian for nearly 150 years. A new report highlights the ongoing battle against harsh corrosion, as the Alesund Coastal Administration and local volunteers conduct vital renovations.

While the site was automated in 1986, its modern LED beacon remains a critical safety backup for navigation. Today, this historic landmark stands as a symbol of stability, preserved by locals dedicated to maintaining Norway's coastal heritage and providing light in a wild environment.
