London's Tate Gallery celebrates its first decade

May 12, 2010

In London, the Tate Gallery of Modern Art is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.

To mark the anniversary, the Gallery is holding a free three-day festival called No Soul for Sale. It will feature art, performances, music and film from more than 70 independent artist collectives, from places as far afield as Shanghai, Rio, New York and Berlin. According to the organizers, the event will involve monumental structures, epic performances and interactive installations. The gallery is also extending its opening hours until midnight on Friday and Saturday, when late night music performances will take place.

Within its short lifetime, over 45 million people have made Tate Modern the world’s most visited gallery of modern art. It has hosted 52 exhibitions, 135 performances, and around 400 film screenings.
