More than 800 people have been killed in an earthquake in a remote, mountainous region near the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan. The death toll is expected to rise sharply, as many people are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake has devastated eastern Afghanistan, killing over 800 people and flattening villages in the mountainous Kunar province. Survivors describe homes collapsing on families, with hospitals overwhelmed and aid scarce. The Taliban government, facing limited resources and suspended foreign aid, has called for urgent international assistance. The UN warns of worsening humanitarian conditions and disease outbreaks.
