A major incident has been declared around 70 miles (113 km) west of London after a power station exploded there, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Police officers and emergency medical workers had arrived at the scene, saying there had been a "major incident," although authorities couldn't yet confirm what had caused it.

Photos published on Twitter showed the site where the explosion had presumably occurred.

Police have not yet confirmed any casualties. At least six ambulances were at the scene to attend to any possible injuries.

The Didcot power plant has a gas-fired plant still in operation and a coal-fired one that was closed in 2013.
