Malaysia's UMNO Opens Landmark Meeting

Malaysia's main ruling party has begun its annual meeting. The five day congress of the United Malays National Organisation -- UMNO – will see a major government reshuffle and the election of a new leadership, including the party presidency.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak will take over the post later this week, a move that will make him prime minister some days later.

At the start of the congress, Razak warned the party that it must undergo a radical overhaul to win back public confidence.

The UMNO, which has ruled the country for nearly five decades, suffered major losses in last year’s polls.
