Player of the Week

Ross DunbarDecember 7, 2015

As Matchday 15 in the season came to a close, we asked our Twitter users to vote for their best player of this round of fixtures. DW's Ross Dunbar thinks one Dortmund attacker in particular deserves the vote.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains Borussia Dortmund's main man. Like the flick of a switch, he produced two moments of genius to help an injury-hit side beat Champions League rivals Wolfsburg 2-1 on Saturday. Earlier events in Mönchengladbach rendered the 'TopSpiel' of the week a must-win for the yellow-and-blacks.

The 26-year-old has never been happier at Signal Iduna Park. He says he owes it all to head coach Thomas Tuchel, but the credit must go the Armenian's way. In 24 matches this season, he has scored 13 goals and assisted another 13 - he's averaging a goal contribution every game, at the very least. Although contracted until 2017, there's no surprise that Europe's top clubs are keeping an eye on him.

The second assist on Saturday was peak Mkhitaryan: awareness, balance, technique. After watching several times, one can see how light the midfielder is on his standing foot to be able to put enough power on his volley back across goal, which Shinji Kagawa converted. By all means, this isn't his only outstanding performance of the season. If anything, it just affirms how important he is to BVB.
