Matterhorn, Swiss Alps

Elisabeth Yorck von WartenburgSeptember 13, 2016

The majestic Matterhorn reaches for the heavens like a lonely jagged tooth, straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy.

At 4,478 meters (14,692 ft), it is one of the highest mountains in the Alps and very popular among photographers. It was the last famous mountain over 4,000 meters height to be ascended - on 14th July 1865. The Hörnligrat is the most famous climbing route.
