An organic farmer in the Netherlands wants to cultivate meat from his cattle’s cells. Lab-grown meat finally looks set to have an impact on sustainable agriculture.

Dutch farmer Leon Moonen is taking part in a pioneering project exploring a new frontier in agriculture: cultivated meat. Partnering with a foundation called RESPECTfarms, his organic farm is slated to become a model for producing meat from cattle cells without killing the animals. Supported by EU funding and companies like Dutch startup Mosa Meat, the initiative aims to decentralize lab-grown meat production, making it a viable business proposition for traditional farms. A pilot facility is planned for next year.
