Malte Lehming, an author and editor at the Berlin-based daily Der Tagesspiegel. Malte says that: “By firing Hans-Georg Maaßen, Angela Merkel has saved her coalition government. But the price is that she lost the respect of many voters.”

Andreas Kluth, editor-in-chief of Handelsblatt Global. Andreas says: "Germany's so-called Grand Coalition was never meant to be, and is doomed to failure -- just when it should be tackling huge tasks."

Nina Haase, the head of DW’s domestic politics unit, believes: "Angela Merkel's biggest problem is her own interior minister. One big step to restore voters' trust in politics would be to replace Horst Seehofer."
