The Polish capital has a new underground attraction: the Metroteka. With over 16,000 books, fresh coffee on tap and a vertical garden, this library is a bright, welcoming oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of the city.

A very different kind of library recently opened beneath the streets of the Polish capital, Warsaw.

Inspired by similar projects in Prague, New York and Madrid, Metroteka quickly became a cultural hotspot and local attraction after it opened in September.

Boasting over 16,000 books and space to work in an area measuring 150 square meters (1,600 square feet), this unique library invites commuters to pause, unwind, chat and, of course, read.
