Michael Jackson Sues German Promoter

October 4, 2005

Michael Jackson is suing German concert promoter Marcel Avram for breach of contract. The controversial pop star, who filed the lawsuit against Avram's German-based company Mama Concerts, is also seeking a preliminary injunction to prevent Avram from proceeding with arbitration. Three years ago, Avram brought a lawsuit against Jackson, accusing him of backing out of two concerts in Munich in 1999. In March 2003, the court ruled that Jackson award Avram 4.4 million euros ($5.3 million). Both parties reached a settlement over existing and future claims related to the concerts, while disputes regarding the settlement were to be resolved in Superior Court as a part of the settlement agreement. But Avram has already scheduled an arbitration hearing for late October, and Jackson seeking an injunction to prevent any alternative forms of dispute resolution.
