Microsoft Questions CeBIT Participation
September 30, 2004US software giant Microsoft is looking closely at whether it is worthwhile continuing to attend CeBIT, the world's biggest high-tech and computer trade fair, in future, the head of Microsoft Germany Juergen Gallman said on Thursday. "We're currently looking at our attendance at CeBIT," which takes place every year in the northern Germany city of Hanover, Gallmann told journalists at a meeting of the High-tech press club HPC late Wednesday in remarks made available for release on Thursday. While Microsoft had already budgeted for a number of stands at the gigantic CeBIT fair, "we're seriously considering whether other events with our customers directly are not more worthwhile than CeBIT," Gallmann said. The number of both visitors and exhibitors at CeBIT has indeed been in decline since the Internet bubble burst in 2000 and 2001. Organizer Deutsche Messe last month decided to cancel the US version of the trade fair, CeBIT America next year. (AFP)
