Migrant delivery workers in Romania: Hope amid hostility

Romania increasingly relies on migrant workers to keep its economy moving. For many, the country offers opportunity and safety. But increasing reports of racism and exclusion are becoming harder to ignore.

Romania's delivery economy increasingly depends on workers from countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. 
Mehedi Hasan left his family behind in Bangladesh and came to Romania in search of a better future. 

Long shifts, loneliness and video calls home have become part of his daily life. Nevertheless, he says he's satisfied with his decision to work in Romania.

While many migrants describe Romanians as welcoming and helpful and the number of foreign workers continues to rise, NGOs warn that racist incidents are no longer isolated cases.
