Military Research at German Universities

Many in Germany have long been critical of the role university researchers play in supporting domestic arms manufacturers. As a result, numerous local universities withdrew from all research that serves a military use. Others, though, continue to take part in military-sponsored research.

The contracts are for decryption software, ship propulsion systems, munitions and much more. There are large sums at stake - and some of the funding even comes from the US Ministry of Defense.
