Bayer's $63 billion acquisition of Monsanto in 2018 became a major financial burden as thousands of people have sued, saying the company's Roundup weedkiller, which contains glyphosate, causes cancer.
Since then, the litigation has cost Bayer billions of dollars and contributed to a sharp decline in its market value.
Now, after a recent US Supreme Court ruling strengthened the company's position, a proposed settlement worth more than $7 billion (€6.07 billion) aims to resolve current and future Roundup claims and is critical to the company's efforts to move forward.
