Maia Sandu: Moldova committed to joining EU by 2030

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has received the European Order of Merit in the European Parliament. In an interview with DW and RFI, she spoke about her country's EU integration, Transnistria and Russia's war in Ukraine.

In a ceremony in Strasbourg on May 19, Moldovan President Maia Sandu was conferred with the European Order of Merit in the European Parliament

In this interview, Sandu told DW and RFI that she remains confident that Moldova can join the EU by 2030, despite growing pressure from Russia and the unresolved conflict in the separatist, pro-Russian region of Transnistria.  

She also discussed Moldova's European future, Russian influence in Transnistriapossible alternatives if EU accession stalls, support for Ukraine and efforts to hold Russia accountable for war crimes.
