The Republic of Moldova is a neutral country sandwiched between NATO member Romania and Ukraine. 

Despite its neutral status, it could soon begin producing interceptor drones and anti-drone systems as concerns over the security of its airspace grow. 

Since 2022, authorities have reported 38 cases of unauthorized overflights of Moldovan territory, and prosecutors have opened eight criminal investigations into illegal airspace violations.

President Maia Sandu is calling for legislative changes that would allow private and foreign investment in the defense industry. 

Moldova's defense budget is projected to reach 0.75% of GDP in 2026, with authorities aiming to increase this figure to 1% by 2030.
