More than half of Gaza remains under Israeli control

It has been six weeks since Israel and Hamas declared a ceasefire in Gaza. Israel now controls just over half the territory and is already rebuilding there, leading to fears the enclave could be divided for years to come.

A month after US President Donald Trump hailed a Gaza ceasefire as a "new day," reality lags.

Israel now controls 53% of Gaza, while 2 million Palestinians remain crowded in Hamas-run ruins. Phase two of Trump's peace plan — Israeli withdrawal, Hamas disarmament and an international stabilization force — faces delays. Hamas hasn't disarmed, Israel is building new outposts and disputes over security terms persist, leaving Gaza's future uncertain.
