Mozambique - Biofuels to boost the economy - Global 3000, 21.04.2008

Mozambique is one country hoping to benefit from industrialised countries' thirst for biofuels. A large-scale government program aims to make available some 40 million hectares of land to grow jatropha - that's half the country's land for cultivation. The government says it's only setting aside land that was previously unused for agriculture. Jatropha is a noxious grassland plant that's ideally suited to producing bioethanol. We visited one farm that has set its goal on entering the export market. A South African entrepreneur invests 30 thousand Euros a month in the project, which has created hundreds of new jobs for locals.
