Mozambique: Chapo sworn into office amid social unrest

Daniel Chapo has taken office as the new president of Mozambique, continuing the hold of the FRELIMO party. But the southern African country is mired in political tensions. Supporters of opposition candidate Venancio Mondlane continue to protest as seven people died on Wednesday, increasing the number of fatalities to 307 since the end of elections in October 2024.
