Munich Needs Volunteers for World Cup

April 14, 2006

One hundred volunteers are still needed for the World Cup opening celebration on June 9 in Munich, said a spokeswoman for Austrian impresario Andre Heller, who is organizing the event, on Friday. Sixty more women with acting talents and 40 more men prepared to help with stage work are required for the 20-minute show. All together, 1,000 helpers and amateur performers will be involved in the event, which an audience of 60,000 will watch in Munich's soccer stadium and possibly more than 1 billion people will view on television. Volunteers will neither be paid for their help nor have a chance to see the opening game, which will be played after the spectacle ends, the organizers said.
