UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari has returned from his four-day trip to Myanmar, and has briefed the Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon as well as the Security Council. Gambari said he is «cautiously encouraged» that Myanmar's military ruler is prepared to hold talks with pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi under certain conditions. He also warned Myanmar of possible international repercussions if the crackdown continues, and urged the ruling junta to release all political prisoners.
