NATO to launch 'Arctic Sentry' mission in far north

NATO defense ministers are planning to boost the alliance's military presence in the far north. The deployment of "Arctic Sentry" is an effort to smooth a recent rift over Donald Trump's plans to annex Greenland.

NATO is boosting its focus on the Arctic as melting ice heightens geopolitical competition. The new "Arctic Sentry" mission aims to coordinate alliance activities, improve surveillance and close capability gaps, especially underwater. While no immediate threat from Russia or China is seen, their resource ambitions and interest in new sea routes are driving NATO’s renewed vigilance.
