2014 was a devastating year for Nepal: 16 Sherpas lost their lives. After the incident, the Sherpas began campaigning to improve their working conditions and went on the first strike in the history of the profession.

One of these improvements is a dedicated mountain rescue team. Nepal is using a Swiss model as an example and sending the rescue team on training courses to improve their skills. The Himalayas are treacherous terrain and the team undertake five to six rescue missions a day during peak season.
