Nepal's ex-PM Oli arrested over crackdown on Gen Z protests

The arrests came a day after Prime Minister Balendra Shah was sworn in on Friday, after winning Nepal's first post-uprising election. The Gen Z-led protests had ultimately toppled ex-PM K.P. Sharma Oli's government.

At least 76 people were killed and more than 2,300 injured in Nepal's youth-led anti-corruption protests in 2025.

Police are investigating whether Oli was negligent in failing to prevent those deaths during his administration's violent crackdown last September.
