Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in the US for talks with Donald Trump as a stalling Gaza ceasefire and Israeli strikes in Lebanon and Syria challenge Trump's claim of being a Middle East peace broker.

US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu share a close personal relationship. During an earlier visit to Israel, Trump even called for Netanyahu to be pardoned amid accusations of corruption.

But cracks are showing as Israeli airstrikes in Gaza continue, humanitarian aid to Palestinians falls short of the amount initially agreed and Trump's peace deal stalls. Meanwhile, Hamas refuses to disarm and Israel has maintained its occupation.

Former diplomat Alon Pinkas warns that the US looks "foolish" as Netanyahu expands strikes in Lebanon and Syria.
