#In a radical softening of Church doctrine, Pope Benedict XVI has said the use of condoms is acceptable in certain cases. In a book due out on Tuesday, the pontiff says using condoms to stop the spread of HIV-AIDS is justifiable. Until now, the Vatican had prohibited the use of any form of contraception -- other than abstinence -- even as a guard against sexually transmitted disease.
