The European Union's new system of border checks has come into force. From now on, everyone entering the EU will be required to have their photo taken and to be fingerprinted. The aim is to crack down on people who overstay their visa and to better control migration.

The EU is rolling out a new digital Entry/Exit System (EES) across its Schengen border-free zone. Travelers entering the EU will now have their photo and fingerprints taken, replacing traditional passport stamps.

The system stores data in a shared EU-wide database to improve security, detect overstayers and prevent identity fraud. Officials say it will streamline travel and enhance cooperation between member states.
