Lars Zender at the University Hospital in Tübingen studies new ways of treating liver and colon cancer. He investigates how cells become tumor cells and under what conditions the immune system can prevent that.

With ten other scientists Zender shared the 2014 Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation. The award, considered Germany's most important research funding prize is endowed with a total of 2.5 million euros.
