Hundreds of women have protested in the Nigerian capital to push for a bill that would add women-only seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Thus far, female lawmakers have been rare in Africa's most populous nation.

Women in Nigeria are calling for more representation in politics through the Reserved Seats for Women Bill. With fewer than 5% of lawmakers being women, activists highlighted barriers like culture and finances.

The bill, if passed, would create 182 seats for women in parliament, aiming to ensure fairer, more inclusive governance and address Nigeria's low ranking in women's political empowerment.
