No need for censorship - Some forty percent of German books available in China are colourful tales written for children

Some 10,000 foreign book titles are sold in China every year - ranging from detective stories from the US to romantic literature from France. Germany is still known as the land of poets and philosophers and German literature has an image of being difficult to read. That might explain why only every twentieth foreign book sold on the Chinese market comes from Germany. But there's one particular kind of book made in Germany which is selling quite well in China.
