The German World Cup Organizing Committee officially opened one of the renovated locations for the 2006 championship this week when the modernised Frankenstadion in Nuremberg was unveiled. Construction work on the stadium took a year and cost of 56.2 million euros ($72.8 million). The stadium, boasting a capacity of 48,000 for domestic league fixtures, hosts three matches at the FIFA Confederations Cup in the summer, including Germany's clash with Argentina on June 21. The new Frankenstadion is the venue for five games at the World Cup. "I'm very satisfied. It's a great day for us Bavarians," commented committee chairman Franz Beckenbauer at the opening ceremony.
