Nursing homes face staff shortages

Nursing homes in Germany are facing a dangerous shortage of professional caregivers.

Right now some 2.1 million elderly require care - in 2020 that number is expected to reach 2.9 million. Germany already has a deficit of 40,000 nursing home staff and that number will only grow. The job is difficult and wages are below the national average.
