Aged 22, he went with the national team to the Confederations Cup in the US in 1999. But then things went wrong: Loaned by Barcelona to Istanbul's Fenerbahçe, he had a disastrous début, losing 0-3. His own fans pelted him with firelighters. Enke quit the Turkish club and went back to Spain. He returned to Germany on a free transfer in 2004. Now Enke is in goal for Hanover.
