Millions of people are fighting on the internet for a better world. To achieve their aims, they organize petitions, collect money and write comments. But how effective is internet protest in reality?

Every day new online petitions are started. Their objectives range from saving a guinea pig to the recognition of Palestine as a UN member. Some e-petitions have amassed several million signatures. Nowadays activists can choose among numerous petition platforms or contact the German Bundestag or US White House directly. Online activism is a form of protest in an era when many no longer want to take to the streets.
