More and more amateur athletes are posting their training stats and competition results online. The comments and likes they reap are a form of recognition and a source of new motivation.

Training apps are booming, and more and more amateur athletes are monitoring and saving their performance stats on their smart phones and posting them online, on a variety of social networks. For some, the feedback they receive enhances their motivation, but for others it can lead to a round-the-clock feeling of competition. Other apps provide training incentives through games and imaginary adventures – like one app that has joggers running to escape zombies.
