Opel workers pin their hopes on aid from Germany's federal states after the government refuses to help

The four German states where Opel assembly plants are located have given hope to workers by saying they will try to reach an aid deal with General Motors after the federal government ruled out providing any further support. Opel is seeking over a Billion Euros in loan guarantees to underpin restructuring measures. Opel employs nearly 25-thousand workers in Germany. AND, with thousands of other jobs dependant on those manufacturing sites, any factory closures would be devastating.
